Kevin is trying to have a three-day fast. How many hours are you in?
I think I’m approaching hour 40.
Okay, so that brings up some good stuff. So let’s start with how you feel.
I feel great today. I couldn’t say that last night was better than yesterday. As the night went on, eating is very social, and sitting around the house or sitting around the dinner table while the kids are making butter noodles and the wife has keto. I was like, I gotta take a walk. So I literally left dinner and went for a small walk while they were eating.
So have you had anything yet? Other than water?
I’ve had some supplements of potassium and salt. I get them through Amazon and they’re called elements. And they just preemptively get in front of how I’m gonna feel. I think I made a mistake though. I really should have probably started to wean myself off the caffeine on Sunday. Because you face sugar withdrawal you also face caffeine withdrawal. Now some people fast with “Hey, I can’t do without my coffee.” So some people will still do that. But I go cold turkey. I go off to everything. And I don’t drink coffee. But I drink diet sodas.
So if you started at 7 pm Sunday night, you’re approaching 40 hours. So 24 hours. I always mess up how to say this autophagy. I want to say all tomography, but it’s autophagy. Okay, tell us a little bit about autophagy.
Autophagy is the breaking down of cells and their components and they call them misfolded proteins. In essence, just think of it as all the bad things like recycling components. It’s like misformed things that weren’t formed in your body properly. Think of it as your body taking out the trash. It’s orderly if somebody called “fire” in a theater. This is an orderly exit of all the garbage.
Why are people the garbage? Why?
Well, the cells are the garbage. And it’s bizarre because you experience things like I did last night, really weird dreams, and night sweats. Think of that as your body breaking down all this stuff, and it needs somewhere to go. It’s like a fever, almost an induced fever. So all skin feels different. It feels almost salty. It’s really supple. My face feels good. I feel younger.
So I misfolded protein recycling components? I’ve read that it actually substantially reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s and many other things.
I think we’re just getting started with what it’s reduced understanding what that does.
Yes, Jerry pointed out earlier, that you’re using parts of your brain that you haven’t used in a while. Think about the hunter and gatherer days. It makes a lot of sense if you were starving, your body doesn’t go into shutdown mode, as most people would think, oh, I can’t exercise. It actually is the exact opposite. It’s how I become more aware of my body, let’s turn on the brain, and let’s get him some food.
So statistically speaking, in the next phase, which you’re probably already into, you’re reaching about 48 hours, you’re going to reach peak HGH, human growth hormone, like five times the levels as when you started two days ago.
Yes and again, that would point out that your body is rejuvenating itself. It goes into that conquer mode, like all right, it’s trying to starve me, we can get the body to make its own. There are athletic studies that go into fasting and, how periodic fasting does actually make you stronger.
I will tell you, my workout this morning said otherwise.
That was my last question: Did you get a workout in?
Yes, I did work out. I felt okay going into it. My heart rate was weird. I was between 145 and 160 on dialed-down endurance. Dimitri asked me to hit 6.5 on the treadmill and do his second circuit training. I did the circuit training but had to dial it down to 4.5 on the treadmill because I would have died. You feel the physiological side effects. Your body is working hard all the way around right now.
All right. Well, tomorrow we will pick up on day three. The final day unless it is 7 pm tomorrow night. You decide.
I think we’ll end it tomorrow either way, but we might have a catch-up on the following day.
Awesome. See you guys tomorrow. Email a snackcast@yes.fit. And get those miles in and get her done, man. I’m proud of you.
Thank you. Alright, See ya!
