Hey, what’s up? Welcome back to snack cast. All right cool what’s on tap? More diet diet diet diet seems like we’re talking about a lot of diets. We’re gonna talk about carnivore today.
Carnivore is basically the elimination of anything that’s NOT meat or animal product. Interesting that you use the word elimination because it is viewed as the ultimate elimination diet. Yes, because you’re really removing lots of things that can potentially go against you like inflammation and inflammation diseases.
So what are the good points of the carnivore diet? Obviously, we go back to weight loss, inflammation is another. What do you think it is? From a benefit perspective? I definitely think it contributes to weight loss. Matter of fact, I did it for 30 days. Back in I think it was January of 2020. How did that work out dude? I gotta tell you, it’s hard. It’s hard and I think true carnivores only eat natural meats, and I was scarfing down hot dogs with no bun and bologna. And a lot of cheese. But there’s no cheese. No, there’s no question about it. You have your true carnivores, which are meat, meat, meat, meat, meat, right? And then you have well as long as it’s from an animal. And that’s kind of what I did. In 30 days, I lost 20 pounds. You do any type of bloodwork? What Shakira says, the shoes don’t lie. So these hips, knees, hips don’t lie. That’s what she said.
How did you feel? I didn’t have any detrimental feelings or effects or sluggishness. I probably felt sharper. I don’t want you to think that carbs are dangerous. I think completely eliminating them for 30 days was mind-blowing. So the first week I tried to do it the right way where it’s basically moderate to high-fat steaks, and eggs, like all the time. After a week, it was like, Oh, I gotta have something else. I would say it’s hard in the restricted nature of it. No snacking is part of that right? Did you feel hungry? No, and I don’t think I felt hungry as much as I just craved other things, because the one thing that I did find was my average meal size was tiny. It’s amazing, how satiating, regular real meat is. You would eat one steak and you’d be totally full. I think about how we normally eat steaks right with a loaf of bread and a baked potato that’s fully loaded with goodness. If you just eat the steak it’s amazing how by itself I was good.
So a lot of people with severe autoimmune diseases try carnivore because it’s a very basic starting point of what is causing all of my issues. The odds that beef or chicken or any type of meat is causing that is probably slim to low so that’s why they view it as the ultimate elimination diet. I read one study where the patient in the study had a chronic illness her whole life. And she embarked on really what was an elimination diet. I’m going to cut out the bread first then cut out this. And nothing got better until she got down to basically a carnivore diet. She even found better results in lamb. Only lamb, so not even cow? I remember that story.
To Kevin’s point, it’s probably one of the harder of the elimination type diets, but some of the benefits can be really impactful. The obvious negatives that the critics want to point to is cholesterol. Not enough nutrients, you’re not getting enough fiber. The advocates against that say that when you cut out the poisons, which are carbohydrates, your body doesn’t require all these additional vitamins and nutrients. So it’s kind of all over the map. It’s almost like if you’re a proponent of carnivore then you’re hated among certain other groups. I think there are a ton of major food organizations and corporations that really don’t want this information out there. Big Pharma doesn’t want you not taking their pill. There are a lot of people on the other side of this equation that go, Hey, you take the good with the bad or take the bad with the good.
So you mentioned the cholesterol. You did blood work before and after? I think I did. Do you remember any kind of results? I remember, whichever is the good one was high, but the bad one was normal. I’m no expert, but I can’t have too much of the good kind, right? Right. And obviously, you need to take into account your current situation. Probably a good idea to talk to your doctor before going on a strict carnivore type of diet.
Alright, that’s it. We’re out of time. This was an interesting topic. It’s a good one. I read up on it. A lot of competing arguments. People don’t want to agree on whether this is good or bad. Which makes me go oh, there’s something to it.
