Road Race Wrap Up - Snack Cast Episode 56

Welcome back, everybody. So today, we are going to run really fast through the doing a real race wrap-up. Road race summary.

Episode One was really about training, right? Get a plan and set a goal. Check your heart rate. Be committed. Yeah, can we hit a training buddy? Yeah, don’t overdo it right? No, don’t overdo it. You’ll get injured then your training is out. That’s the best way to ruin the whole thing is to overdo it and get injured. So that was really kind of episode one. Training is gonna take up 90 plus percent of your time. 90 Plus without a doubt. So it really deserves considerable money and time in planning. Get a roadmap.

So what was next? It was race week, right? It was all about taper in tapering down so that you don’t hurt yourself two days prior to your event. Also that your muscles are rested and relaxed and ready to go before you go out and do the actual event itself, so you can be the best. Kevin, you can be.

And then planning. Where are you going to park? How are you going to meet people? Meeting up with your friends and doing packet pickup and avoiding the rush of the next day. Because race day is hectic all by itself. Sign up. A lot of events take race day signups and you gotta maneuver through those people who are last minute. Like Oh, sign up, I didn’t train I’m just gonna do it. And arguably most important, is the weather. Right. You don’t want to freeze. If it’s going to rain. You need to be prepared for that. Yeah, cold rain bothers me. I agree. Cold, and I can handle rain. I can’t handle them together. Right? Yep. It’s like sand without the beach.

So, episode three was race day. Setting your alarm to wake up and avoiding the portapotty. What’s your routine? The other really important thing was nothing new on race day. I know you went to packet pickup at the shoe store and they had these wonderful shoes that you just had to have they’re super awesome and super nice and those socks over there were super cool. I’m not gonna wear any of that stuff on race day. None. Don’t wear your packet pick-up t-shirt. Nope, not the new shorts that you picked up. None of that stuff. You can’t wear that on race day. It’s going to chafe or blister you, no bueno.

All right. So you cross the finish line. Episode four was post-race celebration. The number one thing to do is celebrate. Number one, get that cold beer in your hand. Number one is taking time for yourself to really celebrate. Celebrate and reflect on what you did. It’s not easy. Most people don’t do it. Right. And there’s a reason for that. To really pat yourself on the back and be proud of what you did. You know, then to Kevin’s point, maybe your celebration is a cold beer. Yeah, the chocolate milk. Maybe it’s a trip to Wendy’s. I don’t know. But enjoy it.

Rest and recovery, compression blah blah blah blah, blah. RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression and I forget what the E is. I didn’t know I thought you liked rice in the air. Like it’s a wedding celebration. That’d be cool too. And stretch and then start moving again. Star moving, setting another goal. I’m not sure we touched on that yesterday but if you’re like most people after their first I think you did touch on that you talked about Tiffany going I’m never gonna do another one and then two days later she’s looking up races to sign up for. Where can I do another one?

Road races we’re big fans. Kevin’s a bigger fan than I am but they are very unique experiences. I think we mentioned in episode one that if you’re not sure if you are a little shy or sensitive, or maybe a little bit overweight. Trust me, this is one of the most supportive communities you will find there is no shame in finishing dead last, you finished! You’re going to get the most cheers. If you’re wondering if you should do it, you should do it. Look up one in your area and go sit at the finish line. Yeah. Because that’s a great way to see that sense of community and that support from strangers. You’ll get people when you’re walking along and you look like you’re struggling that guy will or gal will run by you and they will grab you and they will say let’s go and even the signs from the spectator. Oh, those are the best. Right? Right.

So that’s it, guys. Road races are really cool. Look them up. Check them out. You can walk them you can run them you can’t cycle most of them, unfortunately, do not attempt to take your car onto the course. It’s never good. And don’t Uber That’s cheating. Right. So that wraps up our road race. It was good series. Yeah, good stuff. All right. Thank you for tuning in. Email us your comments, questions concerns to Snackcast@yes.fit and stay moving.
